Shouting Out Loud!

Shouting out loud is an action that you normally wouldn’t often associate with designers and creatives. However, contrary to its literal meaning, this annual creative session held by Adego Academy CUTOUT Magazine Malaysia aims at holding meaningful design dialogues between creatives.

We are honoured to be invited by Adego Academy and Jay Lim (many thanks to them) representing our studio - LeadLab and also as a member of Ipoh Design Associates (IDEA).

Being the 2nd installation of Shout Out Loud ( the previous one held in 2017 ) creatives from over the region gathered to take part, and generate creative spark through conversation.

Big guns in the creative industry including Jay Lim (Malaysia), 1983 Asia (China/Malaysia), Jun Teo (Singapore) and Adelien Vandeweghe (Belgium) spoke and share with us their past experiences, insights and also case studies.

Creatives flocked to the event hall at Hotel Taman Molek, hours before the event.

Because we had done our online registration, what we have to do is just tick our names and put our stickers on and we’re good to go!

Upon entering the venue, you will see rollup stands showcasing the speakers and some of their stunning visuals. For instance, Jay’s work is a mixture of commercial and experimental visuals, with type being his forte. Besides having his own studio Tsubaki, he also founded Cutout Magazine and it is because of this publication that we get to know him!

On the other hand, Jun has a plethora of breathtaking illustrations and 3D letters and Adelien specializes in layout and book designs. Fan favourite, 1983 Asia have a distinct asian vibe in their branding designs and even established their own Asia Aesthetics Interview and Asia Aesthetics Workshop as well!

Jay conducts the dialogue session with the speakers, and we are grateful to be able to hear from them.

Before signing off, here are a few points that we got from the dialogue:

  • We have to be persistent in our work, and not settle for mediocrity.

  • Understanding your value as a designer (creative), is the first step to charge more.

  • If your content does not connect with consumers, then you have failed.

  • Find and explore your own creative process, instead of following current trends, because they may not be the best way for you to grow.

Thats all for now, cheers and we hope you enjoyed it!
Once again we would like to express our gratitude to Principal Tan and Jay for having us :)
